Neti neti

You exist. That is self-evident. Or you could say that something exists. That something is you. Or you could say something is perceived. You are the perceiver.

In all cases what you are is self-evident, but imperceivable through the mind or senses. What you are is inconceivable and inexpressible. So, you cannot say what you are…but you can say what you are not.

If you discard everything that is untrue, then what you are left with is that which is true. This is the methodology of neti neti.

‘When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth’
Sherlock Holmes

Literally neti neti means ‘not this, not that’. You are that which is eternal and unchangeable. You are that witness, that consciousness that was the same when you were a child as you are now. All objects come and go. Therefore in the search for your true Self, reject all objects which by their very natures are transient, and what is left is that which is real and dependable.
